I am my father's daughter

I am my father's daughter; there's no doubt about that.
A father and his daughters.
From the way we can talk for hours on end, to the hard-headedness of our opinions, to the way we both love unconditionally, I take after my father. We also both like our inspirational quotes.

My dad shared this with me yesterday:
Never forget three types of people in your life:
1. Who helped you in your difficult times.
2. Who left you in your difficult times.
3. Who put you in difficult times.
It may sound cliche, but my dad has always been there for me in the way that only a dad can: through my multiple awkward phases, through major changes in my personal and professional life, and when I just needed someone to talk to. While he's always helped me through my difficult times, he's always equally as present during the good times, too. He always gets so excited and supportive about my personal projects. I can't express how helpful and motivating that can be.

I could not spend this father's day with my dad this year because he's on the road, always working, as a truck driver. Although I wish it wasn't that way, I know that I am lucky to have him here and I'm lucky to be so close to him.

We've always been close; that's the way it's always been and it's the way I know it will always be. In a world so full of hate, despair and sadness, it's important to hold on to those you love and never let them go. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps you going, but it's also the most important thing.

I love you, Dad. Thanks for everything.

Flashback to awkward days

I've had a roll of film (film! From a real camera!) tucked away on a bookshelf for years.

I finally got around to developing the roll this week, and the results were surprising. I'm fairly certain that the photos were taken sometime in 2010 or 2011, when I first started dating my future husband. Tucked in-between photos of my sister and family dogs are pictures of some of my first memories with Chris.
The photos are a little embarrassing (how awkward was I?!) but they took me on a serious trip down memory lane. I only wish there were photos of my husband, but judging by the photos, he was having too much fun sneaking up on me.
What an incredible trip down memory lane. I may have to do this again (on purpose!) someday.
